The Ancient Art of Henna

Mehendhi is the art of applying a Henna paste to the skin.  After the henna dries and is removed, a temporary stain is left on the skin in the shape of the design the paste was applied.

Henna Paste is made from henna tea leaves, Eucalyptus oil and various other natural ingredients.  The paste take about 15 to 20 minutes to dry once applied.  The dried paste is easily picked off or scraped off with the back of a butter knife.

The design will last between 3 days and 3 weeks depending on several factors; the individual's skin ability to accept the paste, sealers applied to the paste and the care given to the stain after the paste is removed.

Henna has taken on new forms in today's world.  There is still traditional designs (similar to the foot below) but more frequently, there is a desire to use henna to make more modern designs.
